Mark Brutzkus was recently featured in a piece published by The Business of Fashion entitled “The Ye and Adidas Conflict, Explained.” The article examines the recent public accusations from rapper and designer Kayne West (Ye) towards the Adidas brand, which allegedly shut him out of his namesake sneaker line. With financial issues plaguing the brand at large, there are high stakes in how Adidas chooses to proceed.
According to the article, Adidas should consider financial offerings or allotting Ye greater control over the partnership due to the highly publicized nature of the conflict. Mark compares this scenario to those that sports teams face when negotiating public deals. He tells BoF, “It’s the same situation as when a star athlete makes a public statement as their contract is running down, to get a new deal on more money and better terms.”
