The Firm

Stubbs Alderton & Markiles, LLP was founded in 2002 by Joe Stubbs*, Scott Alderton, Murray Markiles**, John McIlvery and Greg Akselrud. Having built significant practices while together at Troop, Steuber, Pasich, Reddick and Tobey, LLP, a large regional law firm in Los Angeles, California, and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, a large international firm, the founders were determined to build a better platform to adequately service their emerging growth and middle market client base. They formed Stubbs Alderton & Markiles to focus specifically on providing unparalleled corporate, securities, mergers & acquisitions and intellectual property law expertise in connection with the representation of emerging growth and technology companies, middle market public companies, large technology companies, investors, private equity funds, investment bankers and underwriters, and clients in the entertainment industry.

Since its founding, the Firm has grown to more than 40 lawyers, having recruited former partners and other colleagues from top national and international law firms. Stubbs Alderton & Markiles prides itself on its innovative, “out of the box” spirit. The past few years have resulted in exciting growth within the Firm.

*Joseph Stubbs’ status with the Firm is Emeritus, although he has retired from the practice of law.

**Murray Markiles has retired from the Firm and is no longer active in the practice of law.

In November 2012, Stubbs Alderton & Markiles expanded its physical presence, opening a second office and its Preccelerator® Program in Santa Monica, CA.

The Preccelerator® Program is an accelerator for early-stage startups offered to select companies that provides initial capital, sophisticated legal services, interim office space, mentorship, a targeted curriculum, investment strategy counseling and access to a strategic perks portfolio with the objective of helping you grow your idea from business concept to funded startup.

In March 2014 the firm launched a Business Litigation group in response to the growing needs of our emerging growth client base. Our business litigators, consistent with the focus of the other attorneys at the Firm, seek to forge long term relationships with our clients throughout their evolutionary path. We deliver efficiency and value to every client we serve through a well-defined budget and clear communication about their case.

In the midst of this growth, the Firm’s mission continues to be to provide technically excellent legal services in a consistent, highly-responsive and service-oriented manner with an entrepreneurial and practical business perspective. These principles are the hallmarks of the Firm.
