Available Positions

We are seeking a privacy partner to join our Privacy & Data Security practice group.  This is a great opportunity to work with startup and emerging growth technology companies in a variety of industries and with international consumer products brands.  The successful candidate will enjoy working in a dynamic and collegial environment, for a law firm with robust practices in corporate, public securities, M&A, entertainment, IP, brand protection, privacy and data security and business litigation.  Must have broad based and sophisticated privacy law experience coupled with a growing book of business and a demonstrated ability to handle clients and a desire to bring in new business.

Candidate must have advanced experience in the privacy field, including in:

  • compliance with domestic and international privacy laws;
  • advising on design, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of privacy policies, procedures, and controls;
  • advising on e-mail marketing and online advertising;
  • negotiating contractual provisions allocating risk between clients and service providers related to personal data, trade secrets, and confidential information;
  • advising on representations and warranties related to privacy and security in M&A transactions;
  • advising on incident response planning;
  • working with forensics teams and handling data breach assessments and notifications;
  • identifying technical opportunities to evaluate the cyber security and privacy impacts on a client’s business; and
  • monitoring developments in privacy and data protection laws and regulations, key judgments, and regulatory guidance to help determine impact for the businesses.

Candidate’s Role:

  • To create, with the collaborative support of members of the Privacy & Data Security practice group, an achievable business growth plan.
  • Manage client relationships and to delegate tasks within the group as needed.
  • Build processes within the department as privacy laws expand.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support our bankruptcy practice in Sherman Oaks, CA. The ideal candidate brings deep familiarity with federal bankruptcy procedures and local bankruptcy rules, as well as hands-on experience with bankruptcy filings, PACER/CM-ECF, calendaring, proofs of claim, case monitoring, and document management. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple active matters and deadlines in a fast-paced law firm environment.

Essential Functions

• Process, draft, and file bankruptcy-related documents.
• Gather information from creditors, debtors, trustees, and court clerks.
• Obtain credit reports and prepare, review, and file proofs of claim.
• Submit legal documents to state and federal bankruptcy courts in a timely manner.
• Maintain files and monitor cases on electronic platforms.
• Proofread and correct prepared materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, and content.
• Input, retrieve, update, and delete information using computerized databases.
• Sort, open, log, and distribute incoming mail; route correspondence to the appropriate case files or
personnel.
• Compose routine letters and memoranda and prepare reports using knowledge of the practice area and
applicable guidelines.
• Ensure documents are in proper format and contain all necessary portions or related documents for court
acceptance and filing.
• Prepare and assemble materials, documents, and exhibits for meetings, court appearances, and hearings.
• Receive and screen visitors and telephone calls; respond to inquiries on matters such as the status of
pending cases, administrative and court rules, and appeal procedures.
• Schedule and arrange meetings and conferences, notify interested parties, and arrange attorney travel,
including transportation and hotel reservations.
• Manage assigned attorneys' calendars, including scheduling meetings, conferences, and other engagements.
• Requisition supplies, equipment, and other services for the assigned desk through the operations
department.
• Act as liaison with internal departments and outside vendors.
• Coordinate with the Finance Department on billing matters.
• Calendar and monitor bankruptcy deadlines, hearings, claims bar dates, response deadlines, and filing
requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge of:
• General office policies, procedures, and practices.
• Electronic filing of cases on the U.S. Federal Bankruptcy Courts Electronic Case Filing (ECF) System.
• Legal terminology and national, federal, and state-specific bankruptcy procedures.
• The legal industry, with strong writing, language, and spelling skills.

Skills & Abilities:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, PACER/CM-ECF, and legal case-management or
document-management systems; familiarity with Westlaw, Lexis, CSDisco, Everlaw, a plus.
• Experience with Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Subchapter V, and/or Chapter 13 matters preferred.
• Strong typing, proofreading, and document-production skills
• Ability to plan and organize workload to comply with established deadlines.
• Ability to work cooperatively with employees and clients.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with daily verbal and written communication with
employees and clients.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some higher education or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly in the bankruptcy practice area as a legal assistant in a
law office.

Work Environment

The office environment is professional, collaborative, and focused on supporting high-stakes legal work in a law
firm. Overtime may be required on an as-needed basis.
