Stubbs Alderton & Markiles Partner Jonathan Friedman represented Leonard Cohen’s estate in its recent catalog sale to Hipgnosis Song Management. As a result of the deal, Hipgnosis has acquired all of Cohen’s 278 songs and derivatives, including the massive hit song Hallelujah, which has sold almost 10 million records.
The deal includes Hipgnosis’ acquisition of the songwriter’s share of royalties from Cohen’s Stranger Music catalog and the copyrights, publisher’s share, and songwriter’s share of royalties from his Old Ideas catalog.
