Partner Adrian Cyhan recently spoke to TechCrunch about Media Manager, OpenAI's unfulfilled promise to creators – a tool that would allow them to specify how their works would be included in AI training data, or opt out altogether.
The tool, announced in May as OpenAI's answer to mounting intellectual property concerns, has yet to materialize. Adrian explains that even if Media Manager does arrive, implementing such a system presents significant technical and legal hurdles. He notes that even established platforms like YouTube and TikTok struggle with content identification at scale.
"Ensuring compliance with legally required creator protections and potential compensation requirements under consideration presents challenges, especially given the rapidly-evolving and potentially divergent legal landscape across national and local jurisdictions," Adrian tells TechCrunch.
